Chuck Martin Fired At Marist

Even with wins in five of his final eight games this season, and the emergence of both swingman Chavaughn Lewis and 6-10 center Adam Kemp was not enough to save Chuck Martin's job, as the coach was relieved of his duties at Marist this afternoon after five seasons at the helm of the Red Foxes.

"I'm very appreciative of the hard work Chuck and his staff demonstrated over the past five years," Marist athletic director Tim Murray said in a release issued by the school.  "Chuck represented Marist with class and conducted his program with great passion and integrity.  I think he is a wonderful person, and I have the utmost respect for him."

Martin went 41-118 at Marist since replacing Matt Brady in 2008, and was an assistant to John Calipari at Memphis before that, reaching the national championship game on the Tigers' staff while playing a huge role in the recruitment of future No. 1 NBA Draft pick Derrick Rose.  The coach had one more year remaining on his contract, and a search for his replacement will begin immediately as per the school.

A Daly Dose Of Hoops will have further updates on the coaching searches at both Marist and Siena, who fired Mitch Buonaguro on Tuesday, as they become available.
