Lafayette 82, FDU 61: Ray Floriani's Photo Essay

TEANECK, NJ - Hall of Fame coach Bobby Knight has often said the real opposition is the game itself. You are facing the game and trying to measure up against it to the best of your ability.

In many ways, Knight’s words rang true on Sunday. FDU was handily defeated 82-61 by Lafayette. While the Patriot league visitors posed problems as an effective inside-outside combination and some deadly three-point shooters, the Knights faced other issues.

Not getting a lead, when the opportunity arose, against a team that is hard to play catch up against. Not building on a 5-0 first minute of the second half that made it a one-possession game. Not taking care of some of the smaller details. Details that are part of the ’game’s’ challenge and not addressed can lead to a deficit as seen on this afternoon.

The opponent, as noted, was formidable, and FDU coach Greg Herenda stressed that with his team. Herenda pointed out the fact Lafayette defeated one of the Northeast Conference’s best, Robert Morris, by 26 on their floor. They were a well-coached team primed to exploit and enemy weakness.

Herenda knew the opposition, and he has Princeton coming in Wednesday. Regardless, the major opponent, the game, handling it and managing it well were his biggest concerns on exiting Rothman Center.
