Seton Hall 77, Rutgers 49: Tempo-Free Recap

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- Four players ended the night in double figures as Seton Hall (2-0) got a measure of retribution against in-state rival Rutgers, routing the Scarlet Knights (1-1) at Walsh Gymnasium by the final of 77-49 after the each of the Pirates' last two seasons came to an end at the expense of the pride of Piscataway. We go inside the numbers to tell the story:

What Seton Hall did well: Just about everything. The Pirates got to the foul line more frequently, were plus-13 on the backboards, and put on a transition defense clinic by converting 22 Rutgers turnovers into 34 points. Seton Hall also buried Rutgers from the three-point line, in effect, shooting 11-for-24 from long distance when the Scarlet Knights missed all but two of their ten attempts.

What Rutgers did well: To their credit, the Scarlet Knights shared the ball much better than the final score may indicate, finishing the game with a very acceptable 55 percent assist rate. Held scoreless through the bulk of the first half, Kahleah Copper began to heat up and score in bunches during Rutgers' 12-0 run going into the intermission, ending the night with 17 points to pace the visiting team and falling three points shy of the game high.
